Clapham Town in General

Clapham is a well-established residential area which was once a stronghold for middle-class families. However in recent years, it has become 'trendy' and there has been a massive influx of younger residents moving into the area as well. Clapham now has a diverse population which makes it a great place to live. It has a great reputation for nightlife with arguably some of the best bars and restaurants in South London, including the likes of The White House, Babel and Iniquity.

Area Guide to Clapham North - SW4

Clapham North incorporates the High Street which links with Clapham Common, and has a wide variety of shops ranging from quirky boutiques to high street names. Clapham High Street is also teeming with bars and restaurants. This was once the 'down at heel' area of Clapham but now it is very popular and offers a more affordable alternative to Clapham Common or Clapham South. Property wise, it has a good mixture of Victorian terraced houses and some council houses.

Clapham North station, in Zone 2, is an overground station (called Clapham High Street Rail) with National Rail services, and an underground station on the Northern Line.

Clapham Area Guide in Clapham Common

As it's name suggests, this part of Clapham incorporates Clapham Common, a vast open space of park which is perfect for lounging on sunny days. Clapham Common also hosts a mix of community events throughout the year. Clapham Common includes the picturesque Old Town with a mix of bars, restaurants and specialist shops. This area is also close to the exclusivity of Abbeville Road, a shopping haven for the well-to-do.

Clapham Common has an underground station in Zone 2, on the Northern Line.

Area Guide to Clapham South

Clapham South is bordering on Balham, another South West London district which is on the up at the moment. At the South side of the Common there are a lot of large Victorian houses which are often available for rent. Clapham South offers an affordable place to sample both the exclusivity of Clapham Common and the hip vibrancy of Balham.

Clapham South underground station is on the Northern Line in Zone 2.

Area Guide for Stockwell

Stockwell is also part of the Borough of Lambeth, and has an area dubbed Little Portugal, thanks to it's massive Portuguese population. Stockwell is another area which is due to benefit from massive regeneration in the near future. As well as a host of bars and cafes, many serving authentic Portuguese cuisine, Stockwell is also the home of the National Museum of Type and Communication. Stockwell also benefits from it's close proximity to Brixton Town centre and tube station, London.

Getting to and from Stockwell

Stockwell benefits from having two tube lines which means it's possible to use the Victoria Line as well as the Northern Line to get into Central. Stockwell underground station is in Zone 2 on the Northern and Victoria Lines.
